Achillea ptarmica L.

Flora Europaea

A species sporadically present in peat bogs and expanded wetlands

Joseni, Harghita county, in the  rich wetlands west from Mures river

dr. Alexandru Badarau, alexandru@transsilvanica.net

In the images below we have photographed a group present in the same meadows but which belong to a cultivar of Achillea ptarmica. These plants are clearly not of a natural origin and not autochthonous and somehow managed to escape cultivation from the gardens in Joseni. This is a clear example of 'genetical pollution' though yet we did not observe native individuals of the species around. In such cases the invasive plants should be removed immediately.
